Society of Actuaries International Research Contract Resource

The Society of Actuaries is looking to further expand its research work in international markets.  We’re looking for a contract resource that would be assigned projects to coordinate, investigate small research projects in local markets, and work with SOA committees to organize and facilitate research project oversight groups.

Society of Actuaries International Research Contract Resource

  • Who
    • Extension of SOA research staff that identifies, sorts, prioritizes, and project manages new research projects with first focus in the Asia Pacific and China markets
    • Preference for an actuary who has an SOA credential
      • Open to options, including academics or non-members, but first preference for an actuary with local actuarial practice experience
      • Looking primarily for experience with practice application research over theoretical research work
    • Preferably at least 5 – 10 years of actuarial experience in local Asia-Pacific or China markets
    • Must be able to perform research, data analysis and convert to written research output
    • Must be able to write and speak in both English and a local market language, preferably Chinese
      • Preference for Chinese based on the existing number of members in Asia for whom Chinese is the primary language
    • Some projects may be small quantitative research projects or analysis of survey data done by the contractor
    • Some optimal situations include
      • Recently retired actuary with a strong network, looking to keep some activity within actuarial practice work
      • Industry / consulting actuary who wants a change of pace or wants to do individual work on their own time and flexibility

  • What
    • Project management for current research projects
    • Organize Project Oversight Groups and maintain momentum with the groups and researchers to move along and complete research projects
    • Perform and write small research projects that analyze data for the benefit of local markets
    • Be part of the team that can create proposals for and present at local market professional development events
    • Assist in developing and producing high-quality professional development sessions for international markets
    • Coordination on research topics with local actuarial organizations and regulators/supervisors, and listen to local market actuarial research needs
    • Coordination on research topics with local trade industry

  • Where
    • Preference for location in local Asia/Pacific market and time zone

  • How
    • Set up of Master Agreement outlining general overview and the contractual relationship
    • Statements of Work related to specific projects that would have defined timelines and hours
